This small sweet shop near Sirkeci train station offers a wide variety of desserts including sutlaç (rice pudding), kadayıf (shredded wheat with layered cheese) and aşure (Noah’s pudding).
Aşure is perhaps the most interesting dessert on the menu.. the story goes something like: all the animals on Noah’s ark were running out of food so they decided to share their respective supplies and make them into a mixed stew. The result was a pudding containing nuts, dried fruits, beans, and just about anything else handy.
Also available here is şeker pare (semolina cookies with sugar-syrup) and of course, dondurma (ice cream). The picture is mullberry and chocolate flavors (karadüt ve çıkolata) and costs only 2.50tl.
The menu offers cappuccinos, lattes, and espresso but inside the store I spotted a Nespresso machine which makes me wary of the coffee drinks here as Nespresso is an instant coffee pod brewer.
- Don’t Miss: Ice cream
- Best Perk: Outside tables
- Average Price: 6tl
