Another installment in the Hocapaşa neighborhood eats series. Since 1967 Master Hasan has been boiling up the beans and grilling meats on sticks. Next door to Hocapaşa Pidecisi, and across the street from Kasap Osman sits this tiny kebap and bean joint.
On a street jam-packed with great eateries serving ethnic foods to a diverse though conspicuously Turkish lunch crowd, it can be difficult to decide which place to patronize. Sorry I can’t offer advice for this problem… maybe extend your visit to have time to eat at each place?
I tried Hasan Usta’s famous kurufasulye (beans stewed in tomato broth), along with buttery rice and fresh bread to soak up the bean juice, It is one of my favorite Turkish foods and a must-try while in country. 9tl bought me this meal with tea at the end.
Also available are a wide variety of grilled skewers including: Adana (spicy meat), Urfa (mild meat), Kanat (chicken wings), Tavuk Şiş (marinated grilled chicken breast), and Patlican (aubergine).
- Don’t Miss: Fasulye pilav (rice with beans)
- Best Perk: Fresh baked bread with your meal
- Average Price: 10tl
